Bangkok

Last night we went for out first proper Thai meal. I say proper - it was probably more designed for western tastes as it was in a restaurant. However Hannah and Eva loved it. The best thing according to Hannah was the doilies

Today, after a morning pillow fight with the girls on our massive bed, we braved the heat (33degrees) and got the BTS (monorail thing) to the weekend market. Initially this seemed to be hell incarnate – super hot on the side of a busy street in a crowd with 2 young kids… but we grew into it and bought all sorts of cheap tat – t-shirts and kids toys mostly. We found a kids playground and drank fresh juice from street vendor. We took a tuktuk a couple of times today which the kids loved!

After the market we went back to the hotel for a humidifying session in our room. I tried to get Chang from the 7/11 but was refused. No beer before 5pm. I guess I must look like a drunk. I do have a small beard. We ordered some Thai food from our hotel, which was very good. After googling ‘what to do in Bangkok with kids’ we took a metered taxi across the city to the Siam Paragon shopping center (in Bangkok you can get a taxi across the city for the price of a cup of coffee in Sydney) and headed for the aquarium in the basement. This was a little expensive (about 2500B, about $60AU), but fricking amazing saw some amazing sharks, rays, a whole room dedicated to seahorses. We got to hold starfish and the girls pretended to be hermit crabs and sit in a tuk tuk full of fish. – really put the Sydney one to shame. We even got to see a 5D film afterwards with squirty gas and moving seats. 5D, when 3D isn’t enough.
